The R&S FS315 is a new addition to the R&S Smart InstrumentsTM family from Rohde & Schwarz. The spectrum analyzer comes with a built-in tracking generator and allows precise measurements in the frequency range from 9 kHz to 3 GHz with settable resolution bandwidths from 200 Hz to 20 MHz. Moreover, the tracking generator can be used as a separate signal source. The versatile and highly compact instrument is therefore ideal for a wide range of measurements in labs, service and production; owing to its excellent price/performance ratio, the R&S FS315 is also of interest to schools and universities. The R&S Smart InstrumentsTM introduce users to the extensive range of T&M equipment from Rohde & Schwarz.
Unlike the R&S FS300, the R&S FS315 is equipped with an additional tracking generator. The R&S FS315 also provides numerous new functions. Its tracking generator covers the frequency range from 9 kHz to 3 GHz and can also be used as a user-selectable signal source. Return loss and transmission measurements on RF components such as filters, amplifiers, antennas and cables are thus feasible. Since any frequency offset can be entered, measurements on frequency mixers can be performed as well. The R&S FS315 has been enhanced by max/min peak, sample, average and RMS detectors.
In addition, the R&S FS315 allows electric field strength measurements, taking into account the antenna factors. The R&S HZ-15 near-field probe set helps to locate weak spots by performing emission measurements on printed boards, integrated boards and shieldings. To acoustically evaluate modulated signals, headphones can be connected to an AM/FM audio frequency demodulator output.
The R&S FS315 is supplied with powerful PC software that controls the analyzer and transfers measurement data via a USB interface. Measurement data can thus be evaluated according to different criteria. To process the measurement results further, data and screenshots can be exported in ASCII format and as JPEG files, respectively. The bright and easy-to-read 5.4" TFT display, clearly structured menus and numerous function keys make the R&S FS315 highly ergonomic.
