Hybrids
A quadrate hybrid is a special coupler, used in power amplifiers, for example, to split and combine RF power; so multiple higher power devices can be combined in the amplifier, to handle more RF power. A signal entering in one port will merge at the opposite two ports, but at 50% or 3dB down from the input power level. Several levels of hybrids can be combined to realise a 'tree structure' for more complex splitter/combiner configurations for combining many devices. |
